Classic Earl Grey Tea Bags (pack Of 1, Total 50 Bags) By Newby Teas

  • £14.73

When the British Prime Minister, the 2nd Earl Grey, visited China in 1830, he was treated to a delightful cup of tea, which had been flavoured with oil from the ripened peel of bergamot - a Canton orange. He was so impressed by the pale colour and delicate scent of this blend, he brought a supply back to London. The arrival of this unusual tea from China coincided with the rise in popularity of afternoon tea, as a fashionable social event. The tea was named after the popular politician, credited with introducing it to the Western world. It was not long before the most respected private residencies and tea houses were serving Earl Grey in the afternoon.
